General use computer for home/work. Seperate monitor, mouse and keyboard.
Easy to upgrade/repair.
Desktop
All-In-One
General use computer for home/work. Computer is built into display. Seperate mouse and keyboard.
Hard to upgrade/repair.
Laptop
Portable computer with battery, display, keyboard, trackpad all integrated.
Hard to upgrade/repair, batteries can be expensive to replace.
Tablet
Portable computer based on a large touch screen.
Hard/impossible to upgrade/repair. Good for viewing media, playing games. Very long battery life.
Smaller, cheaper laptop.
Normally under-powered compared to full size laptop, with smaller screen and cramped keyboard.
Netbook
Computer for use as a file server, printer server, mail/web server. Normally used without a monitor. Normally fitted with multiple hard drives to provide a high storage capacity and protection from drive failure.
Server
Network Attached Storage.
A simpler/cheaper variant of a server. General intended for use as a file server in a home or small office.
NAS
Mobile phone with the ability to install and run applications similar to those used on a conventional computer.
Hard to upgrade/repair, battery life can be short.
Smartphone
